Explore Beaches

The biggest draw of Southwest Michigan is our beautiful Lake with crystal clear water, soaring sand dunes and sugary soft shorelines. Many public beaches offer rentals (kayaks, stand up paddle boards, umbrellas and more). Or bring your sand toys and construct an amazing sandcastle. Here are our favorite beaches:

  • Weko Beach & Campground - just a one-mile walk from Monogram along a shaded, winding road, Weko Beach is the gem of Bridgman. The Beach House offers rentals, concessions and restrooms. In the summer, live bands perform every other Sunday night and families gather with blankets and beach chairs to enjoy the free entertainment. Taps is played by a bugler every evening at sunset to pay respects to those who have served our country.

  • Warren Dunes State Park - this amazing park is just two miles from Monogram and offers rentals, concessions and restrooms. Climb to the top of the dunes and race to the bottom.

  • Silver Beach County Park - located in St. Joseph, Silver Beach is close to a splash pad with water cannons and a refurbished 1910 carousel which makes it an ultimate destination for those with little ones.

Explore Nature

Escape the city and soak in the beauty of the scenic trails year round in Michigan. Whether you hike or bike, there are trails for everyone. Plus, in the winter many areas offer snowshoeing, cross country skiing and fat tire biking.

  • Warren Dunes State Park provides 1,952 acres of recreational opportunities along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. The sand dunes rise 260 feet above the lake and offer spectacular views. The park has three miles of shoreline, six miles of hiking trails and is open year-round. Note: this is the best place in the area for sledding when the snow conditions are right!

  • Galien River County Park has a Canopy Walkway that leads to a 60' high Marsh Overlook Tower and a Marsh Boardwalk that leads to River Viewing and Fishing Platform. Both of these major features are accessible via hard surfaced, barrier free hiking trails.

  • Fernwood Botanical Gardens is situated on the St. Joseph River near Buchanan. Fernwood comprises 105 acres and protects at least 10 ecosystems and is a birder’s paradise.

  • Grand Mere State Park is one of the most inquiring sets of dunes in the state. This 985 acre park is so ecologically diverse that in 1976 it was designated a National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Congress.

Explore Kids Stuff

Sure the beaches are great but sometimes the kiddos need something different. Here are some of our top favorites in the area:

  • Silver Beach Carousel - this refurbished 1910 carousel has 48 unique carousel figures and two chariots. Pick your favorite and come ride beneath 1000 twinkling lights.

  • Curious Kids Museum & Discovery Zone - Located next to Silver Beach, Curious Kids’ Museum and the new Curious Kids’ Discovery Zone invites kids to come play, learn and be curious!

  • The Little Things Play Cafe - this brand new business promotes opportunities for children to explore and play while parents caffeinate and chat in a comfortable and inviting space.

  • Slackers Family Fun Center - maybe the kids need to burn off a little more energy…laser tag to the rescue! Slackers offers bounce houses, arcade video gaming, pool tables and more.

  1. Captain Mike's Fun Park - this five acre fun park is right down the road from Monogram. Take a spin on the go-karts, bumper cars and bumper boats. They also have water cannons, batting cages, a game room and snack bar.
